The data are presented in a classification framework and the publication dates are given for the majority of the more than 2500 references cited, in order to assess both availability and priority of the names.
Although some nomenclatural problems will still need to be addressed in the future, this monograph, the largest of its kind in the zoological literature, will hopefully go a long way towards achieving the long-term stability of names used in beetle higher classification.

Tiger Beetles of Madagascar 2: Monograph of the Genus Physodeutera.

A monograph of the Madagascan endemic genus Physodeutera Lacordaire, 1843 is presented. More than 2400 specimens including relevant type material were examined. As a result of the revision, the monograph basically maintains the last infrageneric classification of the genus as given by Rivalier (1967), but modified to reflect new results, which includes establishment of an additional subgenus. The present monograph distinguishes 65 species with six subspecies arranged into eight subgenera. The introductory part comprises chapters on the history of the taxonomy and nomenclature of Physodeutera, its biology and distribution in Madagascar including the behaviour of adults supplemented with the author's own experience obtained in the course of five excursions to different areas of Madagascar, history of the research, relations with other genera, detailed morphology, material and methods. The dichotomous key to subgenera and keys to species of each subgenus are compiled. Each species is described in detail and illustrated with original line drawings of important characters and colour photographs.

A monograph of the Madagascan endemic genus Pogonostoma Klug, 1835, based on a thorough examination of type specimens and more than 6500 specimens is presented. The infrageneric classification of Pogonostoma partially follows the last revision of the genus (Rivalier 1970), but is significantly modified here. The genus is subdivided into 16 subgenera, ten of them are newly established here. One hundred and nine species and eight subspecies are distinguished, including eight new species described here. The introductory part comprises chapters on material and methods, a history of the taxonomy and nomenclature of Pogonostoma, its biology and distribution in Madagascar, history of the research, remarks on phylogeny, and illustrative explanation of morphology using also SEM microphotographs. A dichotomous key to subgenera, and keys to species groups, species and subspecies are given. Each species (and subspecies, respectively) is described in detail and illustrated from type and other material with colour photographs, line drawings, and mostly also photographs of descriptive features.

Two new synonyms are proposed: Calodema ribbei Neervoort van de Poll, 1885 = C. ribbei kumikoae Endo, 1998 syn. nov. = C. ribbei flavofasciata Nylander, 1998 syn. nov. Immages of the larva of C. ribbei, as well as, the larval galleries are shown for the first time. Two new species of Metaxymorpha are described: Metaxymorpha alexanderiensis sp. nov. and M. hanloni sp. nov. A new key to identification of Metaxymorpha-species is presented.

Species of subgenera Stenaxis W. Schmidt, 1844 and Oedemera s. str. of the genus Oedemera A. Olivier, 1789 are revised, illustrated and keyed. New species and subspecies are described and illustrated. Incorrectly synonymised taxa are revived, new status for some taxa is given and new synonymies are established. Colour photographs are presented for all species and for those subspecies which differ by their coloration.
Exactly 100 years elapsed since the last general revision of the genus Oedemera (Seidlitz, 1899) was published. The author hopes that the revision will serve as a starting point for future, more detailed studies, and that it will trigger further research in this group of Coleoptera.
